Born in 1953 Hyang-Gu Lee began his ceramic studies in 1972 in Icheon City. He worked as a General Manger of Hawrim Ceramic Studio for seven years before establishing his own studio, Nam-Yang Ceramic Studio, in 1987. Since then he has built an extensive resume of prizes and awards, in both local and international competitions. He has established two galleries in Japan, his own in Icheon City, and another in Sacheon-si. He studied at Myongii University and became a Master of Icheon before he even graduated in 2007. He regularly lectures at the Graduate School of Industrial Technology, and is a long standing member of the Korea Traditional Potters Association.
