Founded in Mexico City in 2014, Maliarts is a full service creative agency, specialising in Video & Animation, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Art Direction. They innovate in content and form across multiple disciplines to create meaningful solutions with their clients. Since its foundation they have worked on the development of different in-house projects with a social and environmental focus. One of these projects is Refugio, a brand that seeks to generate awareness and involvement around the conservation of native bees.
In times when more than half the population lives in cities, we seem to struggle to exclude nature from our lives. Plants that grow between concrete cracks are disregarded, trees are cut down to build parking lots, and shopping malls are built where there used to be parks. Clearly we live disconnected from nature, something that leads to very disturbing consequences.
We are convinced that design can function as an important tool to improve our relationship with nature. That is why we started working around the conservation of native bees. We design a line of products to provide water and a nesting place for different species of solitary bees. From this line of products, Refugio was born, a brand of products and services that seek to raise awareness about the ecological value of native pollinators.
