Origins is an experimental design and fabrication studio based out of Vancouver, BC.
On paper, we are trained architectural and graphic designers, artists, digital fabrication specialists, and entrepreneurs. At heart, we just want to get our hands dirty.
We operate at many scales, from furniture to built environment.
We are agile. Our multi-faceted approach to design and making gives us the ability to shift gears and disciplines quickly, focusing our attention on the projects and problems that really speak to us.
We believe that good design should be honest, humble, and useful above all else.
We believe the pieces we craft should be as beautiful to look at as they are fundamentally simple to use.
We believe that the techniques of tradition and technology should carry equal weight in contemporary design culture. Our expertise in digital fabrication technologies is always supplemented and subsequently grounded by a rigorous approach to our hands-on craft.
SMALL BATCH PRODUCTION
Our products are designed to be produced in small batches and limited quantities from our studio and workshop in Vancouver’s historic Strathcona District.
They say that less is more, and we couldn’t agree…more. Our family of products represents a dedication to contemporary minimalism and fundamental simplicity.
Humble materials, elevated; our pieces stand as one of few, rather than of many.
CUSTOMIZED FOR YOU
Simplicity is an often convincing disguise of complexity.
Each of our products is designed & detailed down to the grain to allow for variation and adjustments to be made to its dimensions, form, material, and finishes.
If you see something in our family of products that you love, but want to tweak for your space, just let us know.
CRAFT & CARE
If you’re going to do something, do it properly.
We craft our pieces with generational intent, standing in opposition to the disposable, trendy, temporary solutions that flood our marketplace, our society, and our planet.
Each piece that passes through our workshop is born of a careful mix of traditional craftsmanship and advanced technologies. We source our materials locally, and finish our pieces with highly durable, environmental, and family friendly product solutions.
