Spend the day with Sinead Black of Bricolage Quilts from Northern Ireland. Bricolage Quilts is a small design studio based in Holywood, Co.Down. It has developed through a gradual process and is the culmination of a life spent in architecture + design. The essence of Bricolage is in the name – a piecing together of available cloth and local Irish linens, to create contemporary quilts and homewares. Its influences come from a strong design background, the power of Irish nature, the inherent natural qualities of the linen cloth used and the familiar heritage of plant-dyeing processes.
Spend a relaxing few hours learning how to quilt! This workshop will cater for all sewing levels and you will come away with the beginnings of a quilt. You can choose to make from a simple pattern (provided) or to freequilt, where you work without a pattern and tune in to your own creative instincts. You need never have quilted before! You will learn how to measure and assemble fabric pieces and master how to merge colour, texture and pattern.
Depending on your level and pace, you’ll begin to a quilt top for a cushion cover, lap or baby-sized quilt, you can use your work as the start of a bigger quilt to finish at home. Finally, Sinead will briefly touch on how to finish your quilt using hand-quilting methods, basting and binding.
You will leave with 4-6 block pieces, but more importantly you’ll leave the class full of inspiration and with a new foundation for bringing your own unique style into your quilting.
