At its core, collage is the process of altering the initial meaning of an image by associating it with other images or objects to subvert its message.
Needing to channel her emotional response to current events, London-based artist Kate Lewis creates artistic collages from newsprint. She “rearranges” the news into hopeful and joyful tableaux, infusing each piece with a subliminal message about nature’s awesome beauty in contrast to the hardship experienced around the world and reported in the printed press.
In this workshop,Kate will introduce you to collaging with newspaper. She will share her creative practice and engage you in yours. you will be guided through a creative process of research, interpretation and visual representation of a news event of your choice through the technique of newsprint collage.
You will be using a simple template drawing which will be supplied, learning about other artists using newspaper collage to make your own unique collaged artwork.
At the end of the workshop, each student will have a completed artwork .
