What Do You Do at Crafted Vancouver?
I’m the director of the REEL Crafted film festival.
Describe Your Artistic Practice
So far I’ve tried myself out in filmmaking, music, photography, writing and graphic design. I’m not great in any of them, but love doing all of them. Work/Background: I’ve worked professionally in post-production for the last 6 years as an editor (Global Edmonton, SIM International and Method Studios). I’m also writing, directing and sound designing short films, commercials and music videos as a freelancer.
I genuinely love campy B movies from the 70s and 80s. Especially the ones with excessive dancing (Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Breakin’ 2, Ninja 3...).
The beach of Vernazza, Italy as that’s where I proposed to my wife.
Sun Ra; the most extraordinary being ever to visit Planet Earth.
Best live performances:
My mom was a promoter and I grew up on concerts and music festivals, so I could talk about this all day long! I’ll try to narrow it down for a top10… Faith No More (Budapest, 1992), The Cure (Budapest, 2002), The Mars Volta (Prague, 2002), Jarboe (Budapest, 2005), Converge (Vienna, 2007), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Budapest, 2008), The Dillinger Escape Plan (Budapest, 2008), Refused (Vienna, 2012), The Book of Mormon (New York, 2016), Lingua Ignota (Vancouver, 2018).
Books that changed my life:
Gabor Mate: In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts, Henry Rollins: Get in the Van, Sidney Lumet: Making Movies, Anthony Burgess: A Clockwork Orange.
